En route to New York she gets introduced to Dadism through Gabrielle Picabia, wife of Dadaist painter Francis Picabia; She moves to Paris in 1922 and meets couturier Paul Poiret who encourages her to do some designing.

WWD praises her work in 1925. In 1927 she presents her first collection of geometric-design sweaters. Her now famous trompe l’oeil bow sweater featured in American Vogue. She sets up shop in the rue de la Paix.

She collaborates with Salvador Dalí. Her 1937 Lobster dress featured a large lobster painted by the painter. Her Tears dress, printed with a Dali design, and her quilted Skeleton dress both feature in her 1938 Circus Collection.

She introduced trompe l’oeil in 1928 decades before Sonya Rykiel. 40 years before DVF she launched the wraparound dress. She also gave us the colored zipper, the shoulder pad, the wedge heel, the turban and culottes.

Her AW37-38 collection featured a hat shaped like a woman's high heeled shoe - one of her many forays into surrealism. Coco Chanel dismissed her rival as “that Italian artist who makes clothes”.

In 1954 Shocking Life her autobiography is published. She dies in 73 and is buried in her signature shocking pink. In July, Schiarapelli premieres its first accessories and scents and a new collection in March 13.
